Why aren’t you watering with sub-surface drip?

 

Re-think your approach to irrigation and you should save water

 

Existing ovals and sports-fields often have a history which has not included the creation of the site with soil  type that will provide consistent quality turf for many years.

Often sports-fields have been developed through excavation works which have severely compacted lower soil layers.  Sometimes they have been back-filled with various qualities of soil and others have been created over old rubbish dumps.

 

In most cases what has been created will sustain turf growth, but not over the long-term and certainly not with any consistency across the site.

 

Greene Eden recommends carrying out Soil Tests across the site before proceeding with the installation of up-graded or new irrigation systems. 

Generally several samples are collected across the site, packaged and sent to Pro-Ag Soil Management for analysis.  

The report generated by the analysis will outline what

the site requires in the form of mineral and biological product  to ensure that the turf and the irrigation system have the optimum environment to provide quality growth.

Sometimes the site will need additional top-soil added and may require leveling and re-seeding.

The end result will guarantee a much better quality turf, consistent soil surface, and an environment where the irrigation system can provide water evenly through the soil profile.

Investment in the reconstruction and/or renovation of a sports-field is an investment in the long-term life of the area and the quality of the playing surface. 

In tandem with sub-surface drip irrigation, on-going monitoring and management of the site in relation to water scheduling and the addition of BioLogic products (see “Living Soil”) , the outcome will be the best quality turf surface available.
